Referrals are seen from throughout the State of Connecticut and second opinions are frequently requested by patients whose primary pediatric nephrology consultation has been at medical centers in the region. The Division has maintained excellent ambulatory care records which have been used for long-term follow-up studies. These clinical activities are supported by the diligence and comprehensive work of Florine Thompson, our nurse coordinator and by Marie Campbell, our senior administrative assistant, who is critical in the triage and follow-up of patients.
The care and management of children with end-stage renal disease, including home dialysis therapies and renal transplantation, are specifically designed to meet the needs of children and their families. The Renal Transplantation Program was the first program in Connecticut for children. This program is jointly managed by the members of Pediatric Nephrology and colleagues in Transplant Surgery. All children who receive a renal transplant are cared for in age-appropriate pediatric units where a special emphasis is placed on their psychosocial as well as organic needs.
Pediatric Nephrologists primarily see patients at the Pediatric Speciality
Center, 2nd Floor, Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital (Map
and Directions). Our kidney hemodialysis patients are cared for at Gambro
Healthcare Center (Map
and Directions) and our peritoneal dialysis patients are seen at the Chronic Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) unit on Sherman Avenue.
